Job Description
Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Residence Life Hall Director. The Hall Director oversees the development, programming, and operation of two residence halls.  They build an engaging, safe, and inclusive residential community where students thrive. Fosters student excellence through out-of-the classroom experiences that promote student growth. The Hall Director is responsible for resident assistant supervision, advising Residence Hall Association, and responding to emergency/crisis situations.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise, train, and evaluate 16 Resident Assistants.
  • Oversee programming, development, and operation in Regents and Johnson halls, as well as the Honors floors in the Tower Apartments.
  • Co-coordinate the recruitment and selection process of student staff members.
  • Develop and facilitate student staff training sessions, staff developments, staff one on ones, and staff meetings.
  • Co-Advise the student governing organization of Residence Hall Association.
  • Plan, implement, and administer social, recreational, and educational programs and activities for the resident community with Residence Hall Association.
  • Build relationships with residents, Residence Life staff, Maintenance, and Custodial.
  • Perform in a duty coverage rotation responding to situations involving crisis management, facility issues, and counseling.
  • Enforce MSOE polices, codes, regulations and confront violations.
  • Adjudicate students who have violated the Student Conduct Code and create appropriate sanctions.
  • Maintain accurate written and electronic files and records and submits related reports, data, and information as required.
  • Assist with the opening and closing of the residence halls.
  • Work closely with other departments on campus to ensure support for and accomplishment of departmental mission, strategies, and goals.
  • Coordinate housing, assignments, dining, facility, linen, and security for summer programs.
  • Complete administrative duties involving incident reports, conduct forms, and paperwork as needed.
  • Attend weekly professional staff meeting and one on one with supervisor.
  • Assist in the development, implantation, and evaluation of departmental initiatives.
  • Assist in the management of Residence Life budget.
  • Must maintain full time residence in the Residence Halls
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
 
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director in the development and revision of policies procedures and regulations.
  • Participate in Enrollment Management events in conjunction with offices such as Admissions, Student Life, and New Student Programs.
  • Actively participate in campus committees.
All other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree in a related field is required. Master’s degree in a student affairs field is strongly preferred.
  • Two or more years of Residence Life and supervision experience.
  • Enjoy working with students and demonstrate a commitment to help their personal and professional development.
  • Commitment to continued learning by attendance at conferences and/or additional coursework is highly desired.
  • At all times, display the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Skills
  • Demonstrate ability to deal effectively with students, staff, faculty, and parents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships and function as a team player.
  • Ability to create and facilitate training sessions and hall programs.

  • Self-motivated, and set and meet own goals, objectives and deadlines.
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. 

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
